Hike Details
Observation Peak Guided Day Hike, Yellowstone

Observation Peak - Canyon Area

The trail to Observation Peak is located near Canyon Village. The hike begins at the Cascade Lake Trailhead just north of Canyon Junction heading toward Dunraven Pass. For the first two miles the trail is very flat as you travel through open meadows to the edge of Cascade Lake. Upon reaching this small lake the trail climbs 1,400 feet through whitebark pine forests to the lookout tower at the top of Observation Peak. From the top the views extend south across Grebe Lake toward the Hayden Valley and the Grand Tetons. To the east and west the scenery is just as grand, stretching far beyond the boundaries of the park.
