Old Faithful Area - Yellowstone
Upper Geyser Basin - Yellowstone
Old Faithful Area Trail Map - Yellowstone National Park
The Old Faithful area is one of the most popular destinations in Yellowstone and it is located in what is known as the Upper Geyser Basin. This region has the highest concentration of geysers in the world. There are numerous thermal features as well as man-made attractions located at Old Faithful. You can easily spend a day or two walking the trails and boardwalks that make up this exciting and very active geothermal area. If you arrive early in the morning or later in the day you'll enjoy a little more solitude but always be "bear aware." They are most active in the morning and evening hours.

Some of the larger thermal features in the Upper Geyser Basin are very active while others may erupt with a little less frequency. At the more predictable geysers the park service will indicate the approximate time of the next eruption. If you notice a crowd gathering near a specific geyser you can bet an eruption is imminent, and while Old Faithful is the most famous geyser in Yellowstone, there are a number in this area that are much more spectacular. The following geysers are worth visiting if you plan to explore the boardwalks in the Upper Geyser Basin area and they put on an incredible show; Beehive Geyser, Castle Geyser, Grand Geyser, Grotto Geyser, Riverside Geyser, Sawmill and Daisy Geyser.
